Zoning By-law Amendment

Zoning By-law Amendment

A Zoning By-law Amendment may be required when proposed use or development is not permitted by the Township’s Zoning By-law.

A Minor Variance may be appropriate for a small change to a zoning requirement, such as a reduced setback, increased lot coverage, or similar provision.

A Zoning By-law Amendment is generally required for a new use, a change to zoning provisions, or a larger change that cannot be addressed through a minor variance.

Zoning By-law Amendment applications are reviewed through a public planning process. The Planning Advisory and Committee of Adjustment review the application and make a recommendation to Council. Council makes the final decision by by-law.

What is a Zoning By-Law?

The Zoning By-law regulates how land, buildings, and structures can be used and developed in the Township.

It includes rules for permitted uses, setbacks, lot coverage, building height, parking, accessory buildings, waterfront development, and other property standards.

Before starting a project, check the zoning for your property or contact Development Services for assistance.
