Unopened Road Allowance

Unopened Road Allowance

An unopened road allowance request may be required when a property owner wants to:

  • Close and purchase an unopened road allowance;
  • Address an existing encroachment on an unopened road allowance; or
  • Obtain permission to use an unopened road allowance for access.

Requests are reviewed by the Township and may require notice to neighbouring property owners, a public notice, review by the Planning Advisory and Committee of Adjustment, and approval by Council.

If a road allowance is closed and conveyed, the land must be purchased from the Township in accordance with the Township’s applicable sale and disposal of land policies and by-laws.
