Alexander Stevens House
75 King Street, Delta, ON
A combination of Italianate and Georgian style of architecture, this two-storey brick home features walk-esque windows with segmental openings and a double-door main entrance covered by a portico. There is a double stacked chimney on the roof along with a beautifully delicate wrought iron “widow’s walk” railing. The long and narrow house, basically T-shaped with a short façade has a one-storey gabled wing at the rear. There is also a full basement made of stone.
This home was built by Alexander Stevens, the great-grandson of Abel Stevens, founder of Delta, on land that was originally granted by the crown. Alexander was a businessman, owner of the carriage factory in Delta. Built in 1876, the house remained in the Stevens family for approximately one hundred years.
